Oh my friend movie story

Director: Venu Sreeram
Music Director: Rahulrajj
Producer: Dhil Raju
Casting: Siddharth, Shruti Haasan, Navadeep, Hansika Motwani
Ratings: 3.5

Released on: 11-11-11

Story:The story is pretty simple. It is the friendship story between a boy and a girl. Chandu (Siddarth) and Siri (Shruti Haasan) are friends in school and they continue their friendship even after they grow up.

While Siri acts like a responsible daughter, Chandu gives troubles to his parents with his acts. He dreams to become a musician. At this juncture, Chandu meets Ritu (Hansika Motwani) a college classmate. Chandu falls flat for her looks.

Siri also helps Chandu in his efforts to woo Ritu. At the same time, Siri is in love with Navdeep, who is working in the US. He comes to India and gets formally engaged to Siri..

Meanwhile, Chandu gets an offer to perform at a music competition in Kerala and Siri, Ritu and Navdeep accompany him to Kerala.

Here the friction starts as Navdeep and Ritu are jealous of the deep friendship between Siri and Chandu. They mistake the friendship to be love. Navdeep wants Siri to decide between him and her friend.

Same is the case with Ritu. Even the parents of Siri and Chandu think that they are in love. How Siri and Chandu manage to resolve this problem forms the basis for the remaining part of the story.

Positive:
Siddarth, Shruti and Navdeep's performance.
Wonderful music.
Tight screenplay.
No violence and cheap comedy.

Negative:Narration is slow.
Clichéd subject of father-son difference of opinion.
Tame and predictable ending.

Verdict:
Oh My friend is a simple love story and also a story of friendship. The director has succeeded in portraying this in an effective manner in the film. The songs are good to listen too and have also been filmed well. The film is specifically targeted at the urban youths and hence the appeal is naturally limited. The film will do well at multiplexes and the cities.

A neat film that can be watched by everyone but not everyone can connect with it completely!

7th sence

Story, screenplay, and director: A.R.Murugadoss

Casting: Surya, Shruti Haasan, Jhonny Tri Nguyen, and the others

Dialogues: Sri Ramakrishna
Music: Harris Jayarajj
Lyrics: Bhuvanachandra
Cinematography: Ravi K Chandran
Editing: Antony
Action: Peter Hein
Produced by: Subramanaiam B, Rupesh Y

Story:
In the 05th or 06th century, Bodhi Dharma (Surya), a prince belonging to Palllava dynasty, goes 2 China where he is soon revered by the local people with his expertise in medicine and martial arts. Few years later he dies and he is cremated there. In the present day and time, Chinese government sends Dong Lee (Johnny Tri Nguyen) to implement Operation Red, and also orders to kill Subha (Sruthi Haasan), a genetic Engineering student who is doing research on Bodhi Dharma. How Subha with the help of a circus guy Aravind (Surya) foils the Chinese plans forms the rest of the story..

Analysis:
Tamil director A.R. Murugados and actor Surya won popularity outside Tamilnadu with the super hit, Ghajini . Six years later, they have teamed up for this new flick titled 7th Sense (dubbed version of 7am Arivu ). Murugadoss who also directed straight Telugu film, Stalin with Chiranjeevi, has chosen a subject that is science-fiction in part, medical thriller in thriller.

Plot line of the movie is very novel but the writer and director Murugadoss failed to expand it properly. The movie starts off so well, but once the Bodhidharma's episode is over, the movie starts faltering and as it progresses, you get impatient with its silly romantic track, boredom inducing "DristiVaseekaranam" fights, and illogical scenes. Yes, the movie requires generous willing suspension of disbelief. When a Chinese guy is on a killing spree in India, we don’t get to see a single scene of Indian government or higher police officials acting on. Such illogical situations are aplenty. Moreover, the film’s hero plays passive role throughout the movie except in climax.

A handful of good scenes, an excellent start and interesting climax fight sequences don't add for the good of the movie, as it tests the audience’s patience with hodgepodge screenplay, uninteresting romantic track, and predictable second half. Add to that, songs come at inappropriate situations. The so-called message that is given in the end is too preachy..

Performances:
Surya in the role of Bodhi Dharma is a treat to watch. But his second role is not properly etched.

Sruthi Haasan not only looks glamorous but she also is good at acting. Johnny Tri Nguyen as the deadly villain is perfect for the role.
Like always, Sri Ramarakrishna’s dialogues are bookish and old-fashioned.

Dialogues like "Maa Naanna Siddha Vaidyulu. Cheti chusi rogam ganistaru" are awkward to listen. Music by Haaris Jayraj is big letdown. None of the songs except " Mutyala Dhara " are pleasing to ears and eyes. Cinematography by Ravi K Chandran is good only in parts. CG works are not up to the mark. Peter Hein has composed superb climax fight.

As a writer and director, Murugadoss has tried to tread different path but he's handicapped by his own erratic screenplay.

Bottom-line:
7th Sense has good concept but it turns tedious after a point. Predictable second half, sluggish pace and logic defying situations outweigh the good qualities like novel plot line and Surya's performance as Bodhidharma. On the whole, 7th Senseis just an okay movie..

After thought:
The movie’s basic plot has resemblance to that of a video game called - Assassin's Creed in which a modern day guy is linked with genetic memories of his ancestors.

And this "Choodani Avataram" also has resemblance to Kamal Haasan'sDasavatharam (2008) and the angle of villain controlling other people's dristi has shades of Korean movie, Haunters (2010).

Ye maya chesava ?

Director: Gautham Menon

Producers: Manjula, Sanjay Swarup
Music Director: A R Rahman
Release date: February 26, 2010
Rating: 3.5/5

Story:A touching love tale, the story begins with Karthik (Naga chaitanya) who is an aspiring film director and as soon as he passes out of college, he is on his attempts. His life changes when he sees Jesse (Samantha), the daughter of his house owner. He is smitten by her and from then on, he begins to woo her.

But then, Jesse doesn't encourage such moves as she is from a staunch Kerala Christian family and moreover, she is elder than Karthik. But Karthik is adamant and doesn't give up. At one point, she reveals her true feelings and just when Karthik things everything is fine, his life takes a turn. What is that turn? How does he cope with it? all this forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:The director has come up with a thoughtful romantic theme and he has excelled in both his presentation and narration. The dialogues were simple but deep, the script was fabulous and the screenplay was top notch. Background score was a bit disturbing at times but overall okay. Two songs were good but the picturisation of them was excellent. Full marks to cinematography and the way each angle and moment is captured. The single shot scenes were exemplary. Editing was crisp. Costumes were stylish and decent, art department was highly creative. Naga Chaitanya did a good job for his role but he must get a bit easy on the soft emotions like tears. Samantha has ruled the roost and she will simply capture the young hearts. Krishnudu brought in some smiles, the others were regular and contributed as required.

Conclusion:
The feel of the film is quite realistic and it is without doubt that eight out of ten people will relate to it. This is a journey of nostalgia and tender emotions and no exaggerations in saying that couple of scenes wrenched the heart. While the first half is more on the entertaining and lighter emotions side, the second half is serious and emotional but it is here that the film scores the best. The technical values and production values take the film to a new league and with few powerful scenes, the impact is much stronger. This is purely for the class and mature audience and it could be that a minimal percentage of masses may also connect with it. At the box office, this deserves a hit.

Dokudu

Story, Screen play, Dialogues and Director: Sreenu Vytla
Producer: Achanta Gopinath, Achanta Ramu, Anil Sunkara
Music Director: Thaman S
Released on: September 23 2011

Story:
The story is so pretty simple. It is a story of a honest politician Sankaranarayana (Prakash Raj) and how he is backstabbed by some of his own trusted followers, who has join hand with his rival Kota Srinivasa Rao. Everyone assumes that Shankaranarayana has died in a road accident but there is a murder attempt on him by Nayak (Sonu Sood). The twist is that Sankaranarayana has not been killed but has gone to coma. Meanwhile, his son Ajay (Mahesh Babu) grows up and becomes an IPS officer. However, he regains con-science after 14 years.

The doctor tells Ajay that he must keep his father always happy, as he has been hurt on his head. He should not strain himself and no shocking news must be told to him. Ajay brings his father back from Mumbai and enacts a big drama to keep his father happy. He acts like an MLA, who is doing good to the people like his father. For this he takes help of the family members, his colleagues in the police department. Ajay gets full support from his boss Suman.

When Ajay goes to Istanbul to trace the brother of Sonu Sood, he meets Prasanthi (Samantha) and immediately falls in love with her. On a parallel track he is in search of the criminals. Ajay’s goal is to bring all the culprits to book. He can kill them easily but he wants to take revenge on them for attempting to kill his father – so he gives them a big shock with an elaborate plan and sees that they actually die in the hands of his father. How Mahesh Babu goes is the interesting part of the film.

Performance:
Mahesh Babu plays a soft and lovable character in the film. He is a tough cop yet he is gentle. He has some good dialogues but there is no big punch dialogue that will register in the minds of the audience. His love track with Samantha is very brief. Brahmanandam hogs the limelight with his trademark comedy. Prakash Raj for a change plays an honest politician and a doting father. Sonu Sood gest a lot of build up but it fizzles out as his characterisation is very poor. Kota plays his usual role and has done justice to it. Tanikella is okay and so are Chandramohan, Sudha, Pragathi, Sayaji Shinde, Ajay, Supreet, Shafi, Dharmavarapu, etc.

Plus:
The big plus is undoubtedly Mahesh Babu’s characterisation, neat story with family sentiment and liberal dose of comedy. There are also no vulgar or double meanings dialogues. Brahmanandam is a big plus for the film. The overall comedy though routine is still enjoyable.

Minus:
The big minus is the lack of strong emotions. The entire plot is revealed very early on and the suspense factor is missing. The film’s length is also a minus. While the first half is lighthearted and jovial, the film drags a bit in the second half. The climax is predictable with no big twist or bang. It is only the interval bang that pumps up some adrenaline for the fans. The items songs are also not that hot with the one by Parvati Melton scoring pass marks. The music is average and so is the background score. The songs also do not look that impressive on screen while the audio is a hit. The camera work is good in the first half but it is not that impressive in the second half.

Verdict:
To sum up, Dookudu is just another average entertainer and not in the same league as Mahesh Babu’s earlier blockbusters like Athadu and Pokiri.

Cast:
Mahesh Babu, Samantha, Prakash Raj, Brahmanandam, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Sonu Sood, Shayagi Shinde, Nazar, MS Narayana, Dharamvarapu Subramanyam, Tanikella Bharani, Subbaraju, Brahmajee, Chandramohan, Master Bharat, Sonia, Supreeth, Shafi, Aditaya Menon, Ijaz Khan, Vinod Jevanth, Bharath, Sudha, Pragati, Satya Krishna, Surekha Vani, Rajita, Vinay Prasad, Baby Sreya Varma, Senthil, Giridhar, Prabhakar, Sravan and others.
